Martinez, Cotto, Dzinzi, Mayorga Make Weight
Miguel Cotto wants no part of Ricardo Mayorga's sweet (?) gesture at Friday's weigh in. Look for Cotto to make things thorny for the Nicaraguan in Vegas. (Chris Farina)The principals in this weekend's most anticipated bouts made weight, so we're a go, boxing fans.
The man who might well be the third best pound for pounder in the game today, Sergio Martinez, weighed 158.8 pounds for his middleweight scrap with Sergiy Dzinziruk, who also weighed 158.8 pounds ahead of their Saturday clash in Connecticut, which HBO will show.
And that Nicaraguan madman, or should I say, “madman,” Ricardo Mayorga, showed that while he may come off as a loose cannon, he can stay on message long enough to make the target weight for his Saturday night tussle with Miguel Cotto. Both fighters weighed 154 pounds on Friday ahead of the clash, which unfolds in Las Vegas, and runs on PPV. Cotto's WBA junior middleweight crown is up for grabs.
