MoneyPallooza: Mayweather Gives Back
Most of the time, I put press releases in the blog section. But this one came in, and I figured I'd give it a more prominent place on the site.
Often, we dissect and examine our heroes and notorious public figures with a microscopic fervor.
Sometimes, their good deeds fall in between the cracks, because media tends to focus excessively on the negative. So, consider this an effort towards rectifying that inclination.
GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, February 8, 2008… Beginning today, Friday, February 8th, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather will host “Money Mayweather Celebrity Weekend”. Celebrities participating in the various weekend events will be: Bow Wow, 50 Cent, Lloyd, Jadakiss, Souljah Boy, Spindrella, Christina Milian, Keyshia Cole, B2K, Chili of TLC, Shop Boyz, Kid Capri, Swizz Boys and StylzP.
The “Money Mayweather Celebrity Weekend” events will include: “King of the Ring Freestyle Battle”—local rappers go head to head for a chance at $10,000; “Money Mayweather Celebrity Basketball Game”; Kid Capri's Birthday Bash and Celebrity Basketball Game After Party; and a Comedy Show Starring Cedric the Entertainer. These events will benefit The Floyd Mayweather Jr. Foundation (FMJF).
“Giving back to Grand Rapids is something that I am so proud to do, and with this event I am bringing the best of the best to my hometown,” said Mayweather. “This weekend is all about giving back to this community and some of the biggest celebrities out there have come here to join me for a great cause.”
Previously, FMJF has organized large scale food drives, education giveaways for students in need of school supplies and a Toys for Tots collection, but “Money Mayweather Celebrity Weekend” is the largest event to date for FMJF. Established on July 3, 2007, FMJF's mission is to empower and encourage community alliances, impact youth leadership and strengthen family foundations through construction, entrepreneurialism and education resulting in healthier communities. FMJF focuses on four categories of giving: youth and education, housing and community building, health and wellness, and economic growth and development.
SPEEDBAG New team-member is coming to TSS next week, so keep eyes peeled. He's a fightwrite heavyweight. Figuratively, not literally. He's actually slim, unlike most of us keyboard tappers…
