More Info On Royce Gracie 'Roid Tests
Despite various arguments arising over the validity of steroid results of Royce Gracie – revealed last week – the California State Athletic Commission decided to release actual numbers on Monday.
“Some were questioning whether the tests results were valid or not,” said Armando Garcia, executive director for the Commission. “They are valid.”
Garcia said the test results from the A and B samples showed levels of over 50 for Nandrolone detected in Gracie. A normal person registers a 2 and an athlete can go up to 6 on the register of the anabolic steroid Nandrolone.
“Gracie’s level was actually past 50, but the laboratory measurement doesn’t go higher than that,” said Garcia.
Nandrolone causes an increase in red blood cell production, bone density and muscle growth. It is used in the treatment of osteoporosis for women in post-menopause.
Gracie has been fined $2,500 and is suspended through May 30, 2008.
Gracie took part in a fight on June 2, 2007 where he fought Japan’s Kazushi Sakuraba.
Many followers of MMA are in shock over Gracie’s test results. A few claim that the Brazilian jujitsu master who put MMA on the map is highly conscious of his body and very careful of what he ingests.
Garcia said the test results were pretty emphatic.
