N’Dam To Battle Lemieux For IBF 160 Crown
Cameroon’s Hassan N’Dam will likely glove up with Canadian David Lemieux, date and place TBD, it looks like, for the IBF middleweight belt. That strap is up for grabs as belt-holder Jermain Taylor is otherwise detained, and will be strapped around the waist of the winner, if all goes to plan.
The IBF has been shopping around who might like to vie for the crown; Felix Sturm and BJ Saunders said no, but the power hitter Lemieux, signed to Golden Boy, said yes. “The fight is on, N’Dam, you can run but I’ll catch you,” the rumbler said.
N’Dam, on social media, didn’t seem scared. “Your place is behind me,” he said to Lemieux on Twitter.
Golden Boy exec Eric Gomez said he is now working on specifics, which will include date, place and I assume TV. “We will begin negotiations this week,” he told me. “Tough fight, but N’Dam makes mistakes. David has to capitalize on those mistakes. N’Dam got dropped six times against Peter Quillin, and David has to recognize those same flaws and score.” That bout was in 2012, and Hassan has won four straight since. Lemieux comes off his career best win, in December, against Gabe Rosado.
N’Dam manager Gary Hyde, the affable Irishman, also checked in with TSS. “Hassan will outbox Lemieux,” he told me of the fighter promoted by King Sports Worldwide. “And at times trade with him. Hassan beats him in every area, and will beat him up when he gets frustrated.”
