Oquendo Predicts KO of Rossy in Second Or Third Round
Hammond, IN, Saturday, June 8, 2013–Regardless who wins the title bout between Fres Oquendo of Chicago, IL and Derric Rossy of Medford, NY the WBA Fedelatin, vacant NABA and WBC Silver Heavyweight belts will be in the hands of a Puerto Rican American. As the two men faced off during Friday's weigh-in in advance of tonight's “Fight Night at the Horseshoe” presented by Bobby Hitz, the room was buzzing in anticipation. Tickets are available at the Horseshoe box office and the fight is available via a Ustream PPV webcast ($9.99) at HitzBoxing.com.
Oquendo (35-7, 23 KOs), who is ranked fifth in the world, currently holds the WBA Fedelatin title, while both the NABA and WBC Silver belts are vacant.
“He is just another opponent. I am going to knock Derric Rossy out in the second or third round,” predicted Oquendo who weighed in at 226 pounds.
Rossy (28-6, 14KOs), who is fresh off of a victory of Travis Walker, has won three of his last four fights. He appeared confident and relaxed. He savored the opportunity pull off an upset and win all three belts.
“I'm feeling really good. I look forward to picking up three belts, its going to be a good fight,” said Rossy who weighed in at 239 pounds.
Oquendo is hoping for a shot at the world title and at 40 years old a loss to a very hungry Rossy, who is eight years his junior at 32, could derail those plans.
“Fres is on track and he looks good, but Rossy is impressive and could pull and upset,” said Hitz. “I am really looking forward to this fight. The fans are in for a treat.”
Rossy has sparred with impressive Polish heavyweight Tomasz Adamek who has recently been rumored to be a future Oquendo opponent.
Oquendo was born in Puerto Rico, while Rossy, who was born in the United States is of Puerto Rican descent.
