PREDICTION PAGE: JuanMa-Concepcion, Donaire-Marquez
SHOWTIME® is heading to the Caribbean for a world championship doubleheader THIS SATURDAY LIVE at 9 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast) from Hato Rey, just outside San Juan, Puerto Rico.
World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champion Juan Manuel “Juanma Lopez is set to defend his title against Filipino Bernabe Concepcion in Saturday’s SHOWTIME Championship Boxing main event. The undefeated Lopez (28-0, 25 KO’s) will be making the first defense of his new featherweight title. He previously held the Jr. featherweight title for five successful defenses.
Lopez knows that his opponent, the speedy former world title contender Concepcion, will be one of the fastest fighters hes ever faced.
In what will be an equally entertaining co-feature bout, Nonito Donaire will battle once-beaten Hernan Marquez for the interim WBA super flyweight championship. Donaire is currently ranked in the top five on several publications’ pound-for-pound lists and is the former IBF world flyweight and IBO world flyweight champion.
Just three days before the world championship doubleheader, there was a full house of Puerto Rican media today at Hotel Verdanza in San Juan for Wednesday’s final press conference.
Fight fans can expect fireworks in the main event as Lopez, one of the games hardest hitting little men, had knocked out nearly 90 percent of his opponents.
On Saturday, Gus Johnson will call the action with Al Bernstein serving as expert analyst and Jim Gray as the ringside reporter. The executive producer is David Dinkins Jr., with Ray Smaltz producing and Bob Dunphy directing.
NOTE: One night prior to the SHOWTIME Championship Boxing doubleheader, top-ranked American welterweight prospect Mike Jones of Philadelphia, will face Irving Garcia in a 12-round main event bout of ShoBox: The New Generation on Friday, July 9, live on SHOWTIME ® (11 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast) from the Ballroom at the Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall.
