PREDICTION PAGE: Who Do Ya Like, Bute or Johnson?
He's 4-4 in his last 8 bouts, and while most everyone expects Glen Johnson to give a decent performance in his Saturday clash against Lucian Bute in Quebec, there isn't a groundswell of folks who are thinking “The Road Warrior” will get the better of the Romanian-born Quebec resident on Saturday night.
Bute is 29-0 and all figure he'll be the one to meet the “Super Six” winner when Andre Ward and Carl Froch finish off that Showtime tournament next month. The southpaw hasn't beaten a who's who of hitters, having stopped Jean-Paul Mendy, aged 37, in his last outing, in July. Before that, he stopped top journeymen level hitters in Brian Magee, Jessie Brinkley, faded Edison Miranda, and trailhorses Librado Andrade and Fulgencio Zuniga. His IBF crown, won against Alejandro Berrio in 2007, and then defended against William Joppy and Andrade (in a bout which saw Bute hurting as the seconds ticked down in the 12th) before meeting Zuniga, is on the line. But he should be able to get the angles on Johnson, who is at 42 3/4 a serious plodder.
Johnson was 166.5, while Bute weighed 167.4 at Friday's weigh in.
