Regarding That Sergey Kovalev-Glen Johnson Rumor…
The rumor mill, it’s always runnin.’
Ahead of a big fight, you often hear about someone getting the worst of it in sparring. Recall before Chad Dawson fought Andre Ward, word was that Edison Miranda knocked him silly in sparring.
I heard that Glen Johnson cracked Sergy Kovalev in a big, bad way while they were working a couple weeks ago, readying Kovalev for his Nov. 8 clash against Bernard Hopkins, and so rather than pass on a rumor, I took it to Team Kovalev at Gleason’s Gym in DUMBO, Brooklyn on Tuesday.
I hadn’t heard that, I just got reports that Johnson was giving Sergey good work, said Kovalev manager Egis Klimas when asked.
And trainer John David Jackson told me there was and is nothing to that report, that Johnson gave the Russian good looks, but that was it. “Let Hopkins believe it if he wants to,” the trainer said. “Johnson gave sergey very good work. Let Hopkins fall for it!”
