Rios and Alavarado on Collision Course For Third Time
They rumbled in 2012, and then again in 2013. The series stands at 1-1 and the tie-breaker will unfold on January 24, in Denver.
Brandon Rios, the gritty ‘n busy Cali based boxer who is a grizzled 28, is looking to bottle the vivacity he showed in their inaugural tangle. Rios won that clash, via TKO7, but was outboxed by the not untalented but also not-infrequent-target-of-law enforcement Alvarado in the sequel, UD12.
Some perceive both to be on the downward crest of their career waves, as Rios dropped outings to Alvie and then Manny Pacquiao, before bouncing back with a DQ9 win over Diego Chaves last September. Alvarado, at 34, is coming off back to back losses and a stint of mandatory fingerprinting courtesy the Denver PD, after getting snagged for carrying a handgun on Jan. 3, a no no for a rap-sheet regular. The physical punishment taken in losses in three of his last four tangles, to Rios, Ruslan Provodnikov and then Juan Manuel Marquez, in his last violent waltz, last May, has many predictors tapping Rios to uneven the score in his favor. Mental anguish stemming from a possible re-entry into the penal system for Alvarado, some say, could give Rios a mental edge, as well.
