Rungvisai vs Gonzalez 2 Results From Carson

Rungvisai vs Gonzalez 2 Results – The StubHub Center in Carson, California played host to HBO Boxing on Saturday night that put the super flyweight division firmly in the spotlight.
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez was looking for redemption and his lost WBC world super flyweight title against Thailand’s Sor Rungvisai. From the opening bell the champion Rungvisai looked extremely confident and both men threw the kitchen sink at each other throughout. Gonzalez was trying to attack but Rungvisai stood his ground and threw body punches. In round four, Rungvisai dropped Gonzalez, who got up on shaky legs. The second time Rungvisai landed, Gonzalez would not get up. Rungvisai scores a stunning fourth round stoppage to retain his WBC world title.
The co-feature saw WBO world champion Naoya Inoue of Japan defending his belt against Antonio Nieves in his debut away from the Land of the Rising Sun. Nieves put on a game performance but he was unable to slow down Inoue, who used a thudding body attack to wear out Nieves. Nieves was down in round five and round six saw him unable to mount any offense, and Nieves’ corner would prevent him from coming out for round seven.
The broadcast opened with a highly anticipated all-Mexican match-up as former world champions Juan Francisco Estrada and Carlos Cuadras hooked up. The pair fought a highly technical battle that aw the tension escalate as the rounds wore on. Neither man had any quit in him but it was Estrada whose accuracy and variety of punches started to wear Cuadras out. Estrada broke through in round 10 and sent Cuadras to the canvas for the fight’s only knock down. After twelve rounds the judges returned cards of 114-113,114-113,114-113 in favor of Estrada, which was the right result though Cuadras was announced as the winner at first leading to some confusion.
