Santa Cruz and Shumie Get Wins on Showtime

Leo Santa Cruz decisioned Daniel Seda in the second scrap to run on Showtime, on a Golden Boy card which unfolded in San Antonio. The victor retained his 122 pound crown, via scores of 116-111, 115-112, 117-110.

Seda the southie Puerto Rican hit the mat in the second round. After the win, the WBC champ Santa, born in Mexico and residing in CA, talked to Barry Tompkins. He apologized for not giving a better fight, and said he’d like to fight in February or March, and will stay for a spell at 122. LSC (26-0-1) went 297-829 to 170-649 for the loser, now 25-2.

In the TV opener, likely future Bernard Hopkins opponent Beibut Shumenov (15-1) took out Tamas Kovacs in a stay busy, keep-the-belt bout. Shumie retained his belt–the one Hopkins says he will add to his collection–by sending the 23-1 loser to the mat in the first, second and third. The TKO time came at 2:55 for the Kazakh.
