THE WAITING GAME Team Golovkin Hasn’t Heard From Team Cotto
K2’s Tom Loeffler, the US-based promoter for Gennady Golovkin, told me he hadn’t heard from Team Cotto, about a unification fight, days after he and I spoke about Team Golovkins’ hunger to tangle with the Puerto Rican in the near future.
“I have nothing but respect for Cotto and his people,” Loeffler told me today, at MSG, before the Klitschko-Jennings presser. But, he said, he’s basically like all of us, in waiting mode, for what Floyd chooses to do.
Floyd is the A side Godzilla, and can wave a wand and make a fight with Manny Pacquiao happen…or not.
And if he does, then Cotto needs, or would seemingly need, a dance partner for his next fight.
In June, in NY, against Golovkin…certainly makes sense from a few standpoints. But basically, until Floyd embraces the D word, decision, all of us are in a holding pattern.
