Tommy Gunn Gets W in South Africa
New York, NY – (11/23/2011) – Super Middleweight contender Thomas “Tommy Gun” Oosthuizen, rated #7 by the WBC and #12 by the IBF, defended his IBO Super Middleweight Title moments ago, completely outclassing the dangerous and tough-as-nails Mexican knockout artist Francisco Sierra over 11 one-sided rounds before the referee called a halt to the contest. The bout, promoted by Rodney Berman's Golden Gloves Promotions, in association with DiBella Entertainment (DBE), was the feature bout of the evening at Emperor's Palace, in Gauteng, South Africa.
This was the first bout for Oosthuizen, now 17-0-1, 12KO's, since his September 3 fight, on the undercard of Berto-Zaveck in Biloxi, MS, when the South African native, in his DBE debut, won a convincing 12-round unanimous decision over Aaron Pryor Jr. in the South African's first fight on U.S. soil. Lou DiBella, President and CEO of DiBella Entertainment, was admittedly a bit worried going into the fight against Sierra, but the flawless performance turned in by “Tommy Gun” has DiBella extremely confident in the South African, and he has big plans for the him stateside in 2012.
“At 23 years old, 'Tommy Gun' is one of the best prospects in the world and one of the best big men to come out of South Africa in recent decades,” said DiBella. “I am thrilled to promote this future world champion with Rodney Berman's Golden Gloves Promotions and look forward to making him a star in America.”
