Uchiyama KOs Solis; Is Fight With Vásquez Next?
Takashi Uchiyama defended his WBA super featherweight crown on Friday night, and scored a TKO victory over Jorge Solis in round 11 in Yokohama, Japan.
Uchiyama (18-0 with 15 KOs), from Japan, landed a left hook on the game Mexican Solis (40-4-2) in the final frame and it dropped him to the floor. He was still, and barely conscious on his back, as the ref halted the scrap immediately. The left came with full leverage, as Uchiyama was stepping in and Solis was backing straight up. The loser lay on his back for several minutes, collecting himself.
The time of the end was 19 seconds elapsed.
The 32 year-old Uchiyama defended the belt he won from Juan Carlos Salgado in January 2010 for the fourth time. Bryan Vásquez (age 24; 28-0 with 14 KOs) of Costa Rica is the top rated challenger in the WBA.
