Wlad Injures Bicep: Is Pulev the Next Chisora?
CALLING SHANNON BRIGGS – Wladimir Klitschko’s multi-titled defense of the only valid heavyweight belts in current circulation was postponed from the initially scheduled September 6th date.
“I am very disappointed the fight will not go ahead,” said Klitschko via press release. “So far I have been in top shape and had a great training camp. I am sorry for my fans as well as my opponent Kubrat Pulev who has just as surely prepared just as intensely.”
Less than two weeks away from such a big night in Hamburg, you can almost hear the screams inside the camp of Bulgarian challenger Kubrat Pulev.
I’ve never seen reason to not take Klitschko at his word, and I believe the report from K2 that he injured his left bicep during sparring in Austria (name of partner unavailable a post time).
Still, there had been ongoing mumbles around the Pulev camp that some insiders never believed the fight would actually come off.
They may have been chirping only to rile Wlad up, but something was very similar in much of that narrative to the type of speculation spewed by Dereck Chisora prior to his pair of cancelled encounters with Dr. Steelhammer.
Whenever Klitschko-Pulev happens, Pulev doesn’t have much of a shot, as in none at all. If they fight within the next three years, Pulev gets KO’d before the 10th, that long due to Klitschko’s usually conservative strategy.
Cynics might say the fight is only competitive if Klitschko fights with the injury.
Hopefully Pulev will take the high road as Klitschko generally does, and accept the bitter delay. Don’t be surprised if Klitschko’s true medical condition, reportedly verified by a specialist from St. Johann Hospital, is questioned more than once.
Maybe Shannon Briggs should offer Pulev a stay busy fight on the 6th in Hamburg. Anybody who purchased non-refundable accomodations would at least get a morsel, and that might actually turn out more entertaining than the originally scheduled bout.
