Boxing News: DBE Features Fighters from Five New York Boroughs

New York (April 22)—It will be a “High Five” for DiBella Entertainment and Broadway Boxing on Thursday night, April 28, when fighters from all five boroughs of New York will appear on the card at the Grand Ballroom at the Manhattan Center. It will be the first time history of the popular series that every borough will have a flag carrier in action.

Fort Apache's Jeffrey Resto represents The Bronx in the main event, in a return engagement of a 2004 Fight of the Year candidate against Michael Warrick. Knockout artists Jaidon Codrington and Curtis Stevens, a.k.a. “The Chin Checkers,” represent Queens and Brooklyn respectively, while Staten Island's Gary Stark Jr. and Manhattan's Edgar Santana complete the lineup. Also on the card will be Robert Semedei from Brooklyn, in his pro debut, Jorge “The Truth” Teron from the Bronx, and Queens junior lightweight Washington Hago.

The Resto-Warrick rematch should be a real barnburner, as both fighters have identical 18-2 records. Expect toe-to-toe action from the opening bell of this 10-round junior welterweight contest.

Three undefeated DBE locals look to continue their winning ways.

Codrington, a kayo expert with knockouts in all seven of his pro bouts, will appear in a 6-round super middleweight fight. Stevens, the other member of the celebrated “Chin Checkers” duo, has posted six KOs in six career triumphs, and the light heavyweight will strut his stuff in a six-rounder.

Gary Stark Jr. (11-0 6 KOs) goes for his 12th straight victory in an 8-round super bantamweight affair. The popular junior welterweight Santana (13-2 9 KOs) has become one of Broadway Boxing’s most eagerly looked-forward-to performers, and will slug it out. Hago makes his second show appearance following a knockout in his pro debut, while Teron also looks to extend his pro record to 2-0 following a knockout win in his first pro fight.

Robert Semidei of Brooklyn and Rudolf Pierre Luis of New York City will both make their pro debuts on the card.

The card will be broadcast live on HDNet, and on a later date on Madison Square Garden Network, Fox Sports Net New England, and Comcast Sportsnet Chicago.
