Boxing News: Tua Withdraws from Briggs Fight
According to recently published reports, Shannon Briggs (45-4-1, 39 KOs) is pulling his bleached blond dreadlocks out. The reason for the extreme makeover has less to do with changes in fashion and more to do with David “Tuaman” Tua (44-3-1, 38 KOs), who was supposed to fight Briggs on April 1 (April Fools Day) on Showtime, but has just backed out, claiming he’s not ready, claiming he needs four more tune-ups before he’s ready to meet the Brooklyn Bomber.
Shannon Briggs is disappointed, angry and frustrated with the progress of his career. According to Briggs, Vinny Maddalone (25-83, 18 KOs) accepted a match and later changed his mind (probably a good thing). Then Calvin “The Boxing Banker” Brock (27-0, 21 KOs) supposedly turned down a fight. But according Carl Moretti, matchmaker for Main Events, “Briggs is saying that Brock pulled out. That was never the case. The fight was never seriously discussed. Fighting Briggs is a step back for Brock. Beating Briggs, which Cal would certainly do, doesn't do a whole lot for him at this point.”
Agreed.
And now David Tua, for reasons not yet explained, has also decided not to fight Shannon Briggs.
