Stevie Johnston’s new opponent
LAS VEGAS (March 22, 2006) – Upset minded Roberto Carlos “El Zurdo de Oro” Ortega has replaced injured Luis Ernesto Jose as Stevie “Lil’ But Bad” Johnston’s (38-3-1, 17 KOs) opponent March 31 in the 10-round co-feature at the new Ybor City Multi Fight Complex in Tampa, Florida. Jose suffered a cut over his eye during training camp.
In the 12-round main event, Sherman “The Caribbean Tank” Williams (27-10-2, 15 KOs) fights for the vacant NBA Intercontinental heavyweight title. The Mar. 31 show is being co-promoted by Silverhawk Boxing and Ringsports Boxing Promotions.
Former two-time world lightweight champion Johnston, rated No. 8 by the WBC, is the reigning IBO and NABC light welterweight champion. He has beaten six world champions during his 12-year professional career: Sharmba Mitchell, Jean Baptiste Mendy, Saul Duran, Cesar Bazan, James Page and Angel Manfredy.
Ortega was the first to defeat Henry Bruseles, 16-0 at the time, by third-round TKO in 2002.
All fights and fighters subject to change. Doors open at 6:30 PM with the first bout at 7:30 PM. Tickets, priced at $75.00 (VIP), $40.00 (reserved) and $25.00 (general admission) are available through TicketMaster. For more information call 813.223.7788.
