Boxing News: Gary Shaw Inks Nick Casal
TOTOWA, NJ (April 27, 2006) – Promoter Gary Shaw, president of Gary Shaw Productions, LLC (www.garyshawproductions.com), announced today that he signed undefeated lightweight contender NICK CASAL to an exclusive long-term contract.
Casal, 13-0 (11 KOs), from Niagara Falls, NY, has been promoted on a handshake agreement by GSP since making his pro debut June 5, 2004, beginning an impressive string of ten consecutive knockout victories within an eleven-month span.
“I had been following Nick throughout his stellar amateur career and I knew he had the style and power to make it as a professional,” said Shaw. “I have never seen such power in a fighter his size. Plus I knew he was special when he trained even harder over the past year and dropped DOWN two weight classes to lightweight while keeping his power. You have to understand, NO ONE ever loses weight around me. They always gain!”
Casal, 20, who is managed by Shelly Finkel and trained by his father Ray, has created a rabid fan base built on his reputation for dropping his opponents in nearly every fight.
“Nick is explosive and that’s what boxing fans clamor for – big knockouts. And Nick always delivers,” continued Shaw. “I have no doubt he will be a three division champion. He reminds me of another great world champion from upstate New York, Carmen Basilio.”
Casal returns to the ring for the third time this year on Friday, May 5, at the Lucky Star Casino in Concho, OK, on the undercard of the Cesar Lopez-Glenn Donaire NABA/NABO flyweight championship card, which will be televised live nationally on Showtime’s “ShoBox: The Next Generation.”
