If Garcia Dumps Belt, Maybe Matthysse and Postol Fight For It
Another visit to Rumorville: We’re hearing that Danny Garcia will ditch his WBC 140 pound crown, and that smasher Lucas Matthysse will be paired up against technician Viktor Postol to vie for the vacated scrap.
So, what about it, WBC prez Mauricio Sulaiman? Nothing like that in the works as of right now, Mauricio told me Wednesday night.
Postol’s manager Vadim Kornilov wasn’t in Sgt. Schultz mode: “Postol might fight Matthysse, but I didn’t know Garcia already vacated?”
He hasn’t as of this minute but who knows when a shoe drops.
Garcia’s advised by Al Haymon and that guy moves a lot of pieces on a lot of chess boards, so who knows how this will play out. Who does? The Wizard of Al.
Yes, Kornilov acknowledged, it’s feeling like this plan is currently in the works…
I left a message with Angel Garcia but didn’t hear back. We’d like to know what Garcia will do, who he’d fight, and at what weight, and when…
Postol is a 30-year-old Ukrainian with a 26-0 (just 11 KOs) record who popped on mass radars when he scored a KO11 win over Selcuk Aydin four months ago. The 31-year-old Argentine Mattysse holds a 36-3 mark, with 34 KOs. He beat up overmatched Roberto Ortiz in round two in his last outing, on Sept. 6. His losses are to Zab Judah, and Devon Alexander, and Garcia (decision) last September. The 29-0 Garcia, age 26, stomped out Rod Salka in his last go, last month, and has outgrown the weight class. We can see Postol outboxing Matthysse, but what do we know, really?
