PICK ME! Lara Raises His Hand, Craves Golovkin Clash
He has fought world class opposition, has beaten most of them, has some solid name recognition, and he’s more than willing to climb up from junior middle, up to middleweight, to test the middleweight king…
Erislandy Lara (20-2-2, age 32) would like the world to know that he’s willing, and he believes he’s able, to not only test Gennady Golovkin, but best Triple G, given the opportunity.
Manager Luis De Cubas checked in with TSS, and told us that his guy, should he get past Delvin Rodriguez in his June 12 test, would love to show boxing nation that his skill set would be the first to smear the GGG record.
“I think people are overlooking Lara as a foe, Tripe G versus Lara can be made, and I think it’s a tremendous fight,” LDC told me. “I think Lara is the best Gennady has faced and to be honest, I’m not sure Gennady is the best Lara has faced. Canelo, Paul Williams…I’m not sure we can say the same for Golovkin.”
De Cubas thinks maybe the esteemed Abel Sanchez doesn’t know in his heart that GGG can better the Cuban cutie, a lefty, so he’s not inclined to warmly embrace the potential match. Now, some fans haven’t either, when I’ve seen it floated on the net. De Cubas told me his kid can be in fan-friendly fights, as he was against Alfredo Angulo, and believes the style clash would make GGG-Lara entertaining to all. It would be the American dream to upset the Golovkin apple cart, De Cubas continued, and the fight can be made, being that Al Haymon, Lara’s advisor, was open to making #MayPac.
De Cubas admits GGG-Lara isn’t the only fight that can be made; a rumored GGG-Froch face-off has its appeal, he admitted.
As for maybe having to do a “tryout” at 160, De Cubas said that’s nonsense, his kid has proved his worth, and doesn’t have to prove his worth six pounds north. “He’s not a guy who needs to go up and prove himself.” If Gabe Rosado can go up and get a title shot then certainly Lara can, he noted. “Gennady is open to taking a few to land and won’t be cautious, like Canelo was,” the manager continued. Gennady will have to close the distance on Lara, as Pacman should have, as it was incumbent upon him to do so when The Congressman faced Floyd Mayweather, DE Cubas stated.
Readers, talk me…you like GGG-Lara? Should the Cuban be next for GGG, if the politics could be hashed out?
