ROACH: Khan Didn’t Pass Mayweather Audition
Trainer Freddie Roach saw his ex charge Amir Khan do his thing on Saturday, against Chris Algieri.
And no, he doesn’t think Amir “passed the audition,” showed he deserves a fight with Floyd Mayweather.
“He will not get a Mayweather fight for that performance no,” Roach told Michael Woods on Tuesday, at BB King’s in NYC, for the Cotto-Geale presser.
“He makes fights boring, he holds too much,” Roach said, and he didn’t like his outing, though he does think Khan beat the Long Islander.This version of Khan fires, then holds, making the ref too instrumental in his fights, and it makes for something other than must see TV.
Roach was told that the SPIKE ratings were food for the Algieri bout, but he noted that PPV really measures popularity, but when it’s on “free” TV, who really knows…
Khan and Roach split on poor terms a couple years ago, with Khan referring to Freddies’ Parkinsons, and no, I don’t think byegones are byegones just yet for feisty Freddie…
