Algieri, Seldin Win on Long Island

BRONX, NY (April 1, 2012) 'The Fighting Pride of Huntington, New York, Chris Algieri proved once again why he is a fast rising star in the junior welterweight division as he stopped Rochester's Winston Mathis in the second round before a sold out, “loud and proud” hometown crowd at The Paramount on Saturday Night, March 31st.

Headlining Joe DeGuardia's ROCKIN' FIGHTS 3, Algieri improved to 14-0-0 with seven stoppages as he blasted a devastating left hook to the body of Mathis in the third round. With the game Mathis unable to continue, referee Arthur Mercante Jr. waived off the bout at the 0:53 mark of the stanza. Mathis' record moves to 7-5-1 (2KO's).

Algieri had controlled the action in the first two rounds as he used a piston like jab and sharp defense to score points.

“Chris looked good tonight. He was in outstanding condition from his training in Southern California and he continues to improve. The terrific fans here at The Paramount continue to show their support of our events by packing the house and we look forward to returning here” said Joe DeGuardia.

In the co-feature, popular welterweight Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin, stunned the huge crowd as he drilled the aggressive Marcus Hall to the canvas twice in the second round earning the stoppage at the 1:06 mark of round.

With the win, Seldin improved his undefeated record to 7-0-0 (5KO's) while Hall of Rochester, New York evened at 5-5-1 (2KO's).

New York based welterweight prospect Emmanuel Lartey improved to 13-1-1 with eight knockouts with a stoppage of San Juan, Puerto Rico's Carlos Ramos, 4-5-0 (3KO's). The end of their spirited bout came at the 1:29 mark in the fourth round of their scheduled six rounder.

On the undercard, in a heated four rounder featuring excellent two-way action throughout, Tel Aviv, Israel's Danny Netzer improved to 2-0-0 (1KO), taking a majority decision over Stephen Tyner, 2-4-1 (2KO's) of Albany, New York. Scores were 39-37 (twice) and 38-38 in their super middleweight bout.

In the junior middleweight division, New Hyde Park, New York's Rich Neves, 3-0-1 (2KO's) thrilled the packed house with a first round knockout of Albany's Joe Yerdon, 2-4-2. Time of the stoppage was 2:03 of the opening stanza.

In the heavyweight division, Jacques Louis, 3-1-0 (1KO), of Brentwood, New York, defeated pro debuting Clyde Daniels, 0-1-0. Daniels was disqualified at the 0:19 mark of round two by referee Clyde McMillan.

Rounding out the undercard in a very competitive bout, middleweight Raul Nuncio, 2-0-1 (1KO) of Glen Cove, New York, won a hard fought four round split decision over Valadrin Muriqi, 2-2-0, of the Bronx, New York. Scores were 39-37 (twice) and 37-39.
