Press Releases
RIP, Rusty Rubin
BWAA president Jack Hirsch sent out a note on the passing of writer Rusty Rubin. TSS also sends out condolences to family and friends of Rusty. Here is the release from the BWAA:
Dear BWAA Members,
It is with profound sadness that I inform you of the death of long time member Rusty Rubin at the age of 72. Rusty had a terminal illness and knew that his time on earth was limited, but still had an upbeat attitude. When I spoke to him last, Rusty said that he had no regrets and would not have changed a thing in his life if he could live it all over again.
Rusty wrote a couple of books and in recent years contributed to various websites, but he is best known for having been the publisher and editor of Ring Sports Magazine, a Reno based publication that had a 17 year run (1989-2006). Although Rusty barely broke even financially with Ring Sports, his goal in putting out the publication was to make friends, not money. That was more than accomplished. There have been many more powerful members of the media than Rubin, but none were more well liked.
The BWAA extends its condolences to his wife Lois who was in touch the last couple of days, giving us updates on his condition.
Sincerely,
Jack Hirsch
BWAA President
