English Battles: “Turbo vs the “Rock”- 2 Lions at 3-Lion Nation.
England is hosting maybe the most attractive fights for this Valentines weekend, 2 title bouts of which, one, is for a vacant WBC International super welterweight title and the second is for the WBO European lightweight title. This last, features the Irishman Stephen Ormond AKA “The Rock” 17/1 versus Terry “Turbo” Flanagan 26/0 from England, both fighters with impressive records, the odds at www.betfair.com say Flanagan -180 will win, the bets are coming in from both sides, they will face each other at the Civic Hall, in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, United Kingdom.
Plenty can be said about the intensity, the bragging and all the trash talk that Boxing fighters do, it entertains, sells as much as the anxiety of whose arm will be raised by the referee once it is all said and done. There are countries that produce great specimens of this behavior and Ireland is a special one even among those greats, they love their trash talk. Heck, if it were a sport, I am sure that Ireland would always be on the podium.
Just look and listen to Connor McGregor the current hot Irish prospect at the UFC; I admit the guy has skills and talent but come on. What is going to happen when he loses his first fight at the Ultimate Fighting Championship? Really, he should have a comeback for that… and I am sure he will.
But enough with the MMA, let’s talk back about Boxing.
The Irishman is already talking about his expectations of becoming a world champion, he has defended the European title 3 times already, and he has fought decent boxers during that span. He hopes that this fight shows how well prepared, mature and feels ready to hoist the world belt he is already.
On the opposite side corner the British champion Flanagan, who wants to prove his 26-0 is real, although when you look at his resume and find wins over fighters with more than 80 losses like Delroy Spencer 10-82, and he fought him again when his record was at 11-92. I mean he had 1 win since their last to justify the rematch… And Kristian Laight 6-116-6, it looks like it could be a short fight but for my money I like “the Rock” over “Turbo”.
Now, at Winter Gardens in Blackpool, Lancashire, Carson Jones 36 (KO 26)/10 (KO 3)/3
Draws, will fight Brian “the Lion” Rose 26 (KO 8)/2 (KO 2)/1 Draw. Being the main bout of the card the odds have “the Lion” as the heavy favorite, but with over 73% of the wagers over Jones side, this should be a fun fight, the vacant International WBC Super Welterweight title is on the line. A fun boxing weekend in England, featuring a title that can change owners and another looking for a home.
