Born on October 9th, 1988…. Scott Quigg Birthday

Current WBA World Super Bantamweight Champion Scott Quigg is 27 years old today, having been born on October 9th, 1988. Quigg is undefeated at 31-0-2, and he is one of the main attractions in the Matchroom Boxing Promotions stable.

Quigg seems to be on a collision course with Belfast´s Carl Frampton, who holds the IBF World Super Bantamweight title he took from Spanish veteran Kiko Martinez. With both men undefeated and both men carrying pieces of world titles, a showdown has been talked about by both men. Because of the expected hype and build-up for that fight, it was expected for 2015.

The burgeoning rivalry with Frampton is good for the sport, as both men have managed to generate a good deal of attention on the Super Bantamweight class, something that does not always happen in Britain. The marquee match-up and payday with Frampton could come up in early 2016. With international talent in the weight class that includes the likes of Guillermo Rigondeaux and Leo Santa Cruz, many more challenges lay ahead.

At 27, Quigg has grown up focused on boxing, as he started in as an amateur at 15 years old and never looked back. Once he turned professional, he has been promoted by some of England’s top names, and that has helped Quigg get exposure. Quigg has made the most of such opportunities, like on November 24th, 2012 when he appeared on the undercard of Ricky Hatton’s ill-fated return at the Manchester Arena. It was Quigg who gave the British fans something to talk about as he fought Rendall Munroe for the second time and earned a definitive win.

In mid-2013, Quigg signed a contract with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing. A series of successful fights gave him the co-main event at the Phones 4u Arena in Manchester, with Carl Froch and George Groves fighting for the first time as the headliner. Quigg won his match against Diego Oscar Silva in round 2 to firmly establish his grip on the WBA Super Bantamweight Title. He has successfully defended the belt four times already, most recently in July of 2015 when he defeated former world champion Kiko Martinez of Spain with an impressive 2nd round stoppage.

At 27, Quigg has the potential for a very bright future, and for the WBA Super Bantamweight titlist,everyone wants to see him face his rival and countryman Carl Frampton come 2016. Happy Birthday, Scott Quigg.
