KEA Boxing looks to bring boxing back to Northern NJ

“We need boxing in northern New Jersey,” stated promoter Andre Kut, “some guys have tried to run shows-but nothing consistent, that's what I'm trying to do.”

Speaking at the intimately quaint Siena Restaurant in Kinnelon this past week, Kut outlined his quest; “everybody talks about the bad people in boxing — but there are a lot of good people in boxing as well. We (KEA Boxing) want to concentrate on the good in boxing.”

Before introducing the fighters in attendance and those scheduled to fight on June 25th (Friday), promoter Kut, a longtime Andover, NJ resident lamented “I've been in the business a very long time. I was an amateur boxer, then trained and managed fighters. I learned from the best – Tommy Parks.” The straightforward and sincere Kut added “I know this can be done right, and I'm going to give it my best shot!”

Headlining this inaugural KEA Boxing NJ show will be former highly-regarded middleweight prospect Ross “The Boss” Thompson, 26-9-2 (17 KO's). The skilled veteran Thompson, having faced the likes of Fernando Vargas, Aaron Davis & Antwun Echols, looks to re-juvenate his stagnant career with a big win over Rico Cason, 16-10, from Nashville, TN. While Thompson has managed only two victories in his last nine bouts (2-6-1), Cason, doesn't appear too imposing – losing his last three fights-all by knockout!

The June 25th “Night of Boxing” fightcard at the Hanover Marriott in Whippany will also include rugged Philadelphia heavyweight Robert Hawkins (16-2). Hawkins, on a “hiatus” from the sweet science since 1998, looks to impressively jumpstart his once-promising boxing future.
As a special attraction amateur standout Wendy “Coquita” LaMotta will be making her pro-debut against Myriam Bazile in a four round bout. LaMotta, a 2000 Diamond Gloves and 2001 NJ Golden Gloves winner, was the 5th highest ranked amateur in the country.

Popular Bayonne light-heavyweight Bobby Rooney (2-0) looks to stay perfect against Victor Barnes. New York's up-and-coming Victor Paz (5-0), managed by Pat Lynch, has also been added to the fightcard. Lynch, who also manages boxing's most exciting fighter-Arturo Gatti, is truly one of the “good guys”. Also seeing action in a six round bout will be Buffalo's exciting Henry Humpries (8-3).
