Too Young, Busy: Calzaghe Wins Split Decision
It looked like it would be a short, embarassing night for Joe Calzaghe, when Bernard Hopkins sent him to the floor in the first. But the unbeaten Welshman got up, and got to work, and left Las Vegas with a split decision win in a clinch and low blow filled affair that nevertheless kept the fans on the edge of their seats throughout.
Hopkins said after that he deserved to get the nod, and his fans do have a case when they argue that Hopkins' shots, though they were fewer, were sharper than the Welshman's. Calzaghe got in a groove as the fight progressed and down the stretch, was able to stay busier as Hopkins looked a bit more gassed than he has in recent memory.
Stay tuned for Ron Borges' in depth ringside account.
