Oscar De La Hoya Might Fight Again; Golden Boy Targets Hatton
The Golden Boy is ready to put the gloves back on, for a scrap against Ricky Hatton, the Brit ex champion just out of rehab to get his cocaine-substance abuse in check.
A Golden Boy exec made the offer for a Hatton vs Oscar bout, to take place, tentatively, in a UK soccer stadium. Hatton hasnt responded publicly yet, according to a report in the Daily Mail.
Oscar last fought on Dec. 6, 2008. He absorbed a nasty beating, and couldnt come out for the ninth round. He announced his exit from the sport in April 2009. This is the love of my life, boxing is my passion, boxing is what I was born to do, De La Hoya said at the time. When I cant do it anymore, when I cant compete at the highest level, its not fair. Its not fair to me, its not fair to the fans, its not fair to nobody.
ODLH turns 38 on Feb. 4. Hatton turned 32 on Oct. 6. His last bout took place on May 2, 2009; he was a KO2 victim to Manny Pacquiao. This was the second harsh KO loss in his last four bouts. Floyd Mayweather stopped Hatton in the the tenth round of their December 2007 fight. TSS U, what do you make of this development? Oscar was drained in his last fight, came in too light. So perhaps hes wondering if maybe if his body, properly conditioned, has enough left to get it done in the ring. Maybe he feels he can compete at a certain level, against a B-plus boxer, but not the A team anymore. As for Hatton, it makes sense that hed like to stay busy as possible, with an all consuming task, not just promotion. Idle mind and hands are a devils playground, after all. Hell need to pass a rigourous re-licensing exam in britain before he can fight again, however.
