Andre Ward/Allan Green Is Reset
NEW YORK(March 25, 2010)–-A new date of Saturday, June 19, has been set for the Super Six World Boxing Classic showdown between undefeated World Boxing Association (WBA) 168-pound champion Andre Ward (20-0, 13 KOs) and world-ranked contender Allan Green (29-1, 20 KOs), >Ken Hershman, Executive Vice President and General Manager, SHOWTIME Sports®, formally announced today.
The fight is co-promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions and DiBella Entertainment and will be televised live on SHOWTIME beginning at 10 p.m. ET/PT from the Oracle Arena in Ward’s hometown of Oakland, Calif.
Ward will be making the first defense of the WBA belt he won on a convincing, 11th-round technical decision over Mikkel Kessler in their Super Six World Boxing Classic opener. Ward has emerged as a favorite following his performance and is currently listed as a 1:1 favorite by USA Today sports analyst Danny Sheridan.
Green, of Tulsa, Okla., replaced fellow American Jermain Taylor in the Super Six World Boxing Classic in January. A winner of six consecutive fights, Green enters the tournament with zero points heading into Group Stage 2. The championship bout marks the first time since Tommy Morrison in 1993 that an Oklahoman has been involved in a world championship fight.
The fight was originally scheduled for April 17, but was rescheduled after Ward postponed the fight due to a knee injury.
