World Boxing Council Announces Winners
The World Boxing Council (WBC), in anticipation of the Mexico-based boxing org’s 'Night of Champions' to be held in Cancun, Mexico, from January 28 thru the 31st, 2006, has announced its Boxer of the Year, Fight of the Year, et cetera of the year.
Boxer of the Year: Floyd Mayweather (United States)
Boxer of the Year Honorable Mention: Jermain Taylor (United States)
Other nominees were: Winky Wright (USA), Thomasz Adamek (Poland), Marco Antonio Barrera and Jorge Arce (Mexico)
Fight of the Year: José Luis Castillo (Mexico) vs. Diego Corrales (USA)
Most Dramatic Fight of the Year: Erik Morales (Mexico) vs. Manny Pacquiao (Philippines)
Other nominated bouts were: Thomasz Adamek (Poland) vs. Paul Briggs (Australia); Jesus Chavez (Mexico) vs. Carlos Hernandez (Costa Rica); Jorge Arce (Mexico) vs. Hussein Hussein (Australia)
Most Active Champion of the Year: Jorge “Travieso” Arce (Mexico)
Champion Revelation of the Year: Thomasz Adamek (Poland)
Knockout of the Year: Brian Viloria (Hawaii) over Eric Ortiz (Mexico)
