“Macho” Miguel Hernandez Headed for Miami
Coming off a terrific performance last weekend against Butch Hajicek on the ShoBox undercard in Cicero, IL, “Macho” Miguel Hernandez, 18-3 (9 KOs), will battle Ryan Davis, 19-4-2 (8 KOs), of St. Louis for the WBC USA Middleweight Title on Friday, February 10th, at the United Bank Center in Miami, Fla.
Hernandez, one of Chicagoland’s most popular fighters since turning professional three years ago, won a unanimous decision against Hajicek with a dominating performance as he smothered the tough North Dakota native from the opening bell, dropping him three times over the course of the fight.
About his crowd-pleasing, action-packed performance, the classy Hernandez said: “I felt great right from the start. My conditioning was terrific and I was able to start very well. Butch was a very tough, heavy handed guy but I was able to move well and avoid his punches while staying aggressive.
“No matter who I fight in the future, I won’t cheat myself. If someone beats me, they’ll have beaten the best of me. Dominic puts me in a position to succeed and it’s my job to be 100% prepared for each fight and that I will be, starting with the Hajicek fight and with the upcoming Davis title fight.”
About Ryan Davis, Hernandez, the father of three sons, said, “He was a terrific amateur, a multiple time Golden Gloves champ. I’ve wanted to fight him for a while and this is another great opportunity for me to test myself.”
Hernandez finished by stating, “I’m thankful to the Chicago fans who have been terrific to me throughout my career, they were great last weekend. The victory is dedicated to my cousin, who’s battling an illness; hopefully things will get better for him soon.”
“Miguel looked very good last weekend at our Cicero Stadium show,” said Dominic Pesoli of 8 Count Promotions. “He was dominant right from the outset against a pretty tough kid. He’s in great shape and the Davis fight is a very good opportunity, against another solid guy for a steppingstone title. I’m very happy for Miguel. He’s off to a great start this year. “
The ten round Hernandez/Davis fight tops a seven bout card presented by Bigstar Promotions with tickets available in advance through Ticketmaster.
The fight will be broadcast by Comcast Cable on a tape delayed basis.
