Lamon Brewster and Serge Liakhovich Meet the Press
The 20th anniversary celebration of SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING continues on Saturday, April 1, when “Relentless’’ Lamon Brewster defends his WBO heavyweight title against Sergei “The White Wolf’’ Liakhovich. The 12-round world title fight at Wolstein Center at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio is promoted by Don King Productions and will air on SHOWTIME at 11 p.m. ET/PT (delayed on the west coast).
At Wednesday’s press conference, the two combatants had something to say. “Relentless” Lamon Brewster (32-2, 29 KOs), as befits a champ, spoke first and was as true as ever.
“I am ready to do this,” he said. “This is what I do for a living. I do nothing else but sleep, eat, drink and think boxing. Some people are college material. I’m from the school of hard knocks. I am very emotional. I am very pumped. I am working with the best trainer (Buddy McGirt) in the world.
“My dream has definitely come true. [On April 1st] you’re going to see the best Lamon Brewster you’ve ever seen. I will be punching even harder, punching even faster. Sergei is a good fighter. In order to be a great champion, you have to fight good fighters. And in order to be a world champion, I will duck no one.”
Sergei “The White Wolf” Liakhovich (22-1-, 14 KOs), Brewster’s opponent in Cleveland, is ready to rumble. He said “I feel great. This is a great opportunity for me. Everybody is talking about me not being active but I’ve actually been training really hard for the past year. He (Brewster) is a good champion. He fights with heart, but if he fights me this way, he will have a big problem.”
