John Duddy Hits Las Vegas
Middleweight sensation keeps upping the ante
The Irish, both here in the States and overseas, love John Duddy, and for good reason. He’s young, he’s smart, he’s attractive, he’s articulate and, lest we forget, the brother can punch. And now John Duddy defends his newly won IBO middleweight title against Carlos Bojorquez on August 10 at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Duddy, unbeaten in 17 fights, is heading up the undercard on the WBC world junior flyweight championship between Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria and Mexican Omar Nino. Should Duddy get by Bojorquez, he has a September 29 date with veteran Mexican bruiser Yori Boy Campas.
Duddy’s promoter Eddie McLoughlin continues to try to set up a fight between the Derry destroyer and the Irish middleweight champ Jim Rock. “John is taking a great deal of support with him to Vegas and this is another great opportunity for him to showcase his skills,” McLoughlin told the Belfast Telegraph. “If all goes [according] to plan in Vegas and against Campas then we will be looking to do the Rock fight and I can see it taking place in Dublin before Christmas if everything falls into place.
“John is very keen to go back home and fight and I think he will be a big attraction back in Ireland.”
Eddie got that right. Irish eyes will truly be smiling when Duddy hits the Emerald Isle.
