Mundine Throws Hat In Political Ring
Former world champ to rumble in new venue
One-time world champion and proud Aussie Anthony Mundine plans to run as an independent in a New South Wales election next year.
According to The Australian, Mundine will take on the Education Minister, Carmel Tebbutt, for the inner-city seat of Marrickville.
Anthony Mundine, 31, who is both an Aboriginal and a Muslim, and is an outspoken advocate for both minority groups Down Under, is related to ALP president Warren Mundine and, according to today’s Sun-Herald, is expected to announce his candidacy on Thursday.
Although he presently has little chance of winning the seat in Sydney he covets, Mundine could take votes away from Labor.
Ms. Tebbutt, a long-term Labor Party stalwart, claims she is unconcerned by Mundine’s challenge.
“I’ve always said the next election is going to be a tough campaign,” Tebbutt said.
She won’t know how tough is tough until she meets Anthony Mundine.
