Big Daddy Takes Fighting Principal To School

Riddick Bowe returns to action in Norfolk, Virginia

Former two-time world heavyweight champion Riddick “Big Daddy” Bowe plans on re-launching his career in the fall, reports the Virginian Pilot.

Why?

“I ain’t got nothing else to do, baby,” said Bowe on Friday.

The one-time baddest man on the planet has had a less than distinguished post-championship run in a sport where less than distinguished post-championship runs are not the exception, they’re almost the rule; but Big Daddy’s combination of the Marines for a minute, a hapless kidnapping attempt, followed by a stint in lockup, don’t bode well for the big restless man who ain’t got nothing else to do.

After eight years (1996-2004) away from the game, Riddick Bowe returned to the sport that he loved, to the sport that loved him, presumably to get in the mix, but he’s only fought twice in the last decade as commission after commission deemed the idea of Bowe boxing in their jurisdiction not worth the intangible risk vs. tangible reward.

But 39-year-old Riddick Bowe has signed to face George Linberger (29-8), aka The Fighting Principal, as the main event on a seven-bout card scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Norfolk Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia.

Not much is known about The Fighting Principal, the last man he fought was Butterbean, but that small fact doesn’t perturb Big Daddy.

He’s a teacher, Bowe said, so the first thing I’m going to give him is a lesson.
