Boxing News: Big Nic Valuev Hits New York
WBA heavyweight champion Nicolai Valuev is in the U.S., specifically in New York, for the first leg of his American media tour, which will also include Chicago and LA.
Formerly known as the “Beast From The East” but now known as the “Russian Giant,” Valuev (44-0, 32 KOs) is slated to defend his title against Monte “Two Gunz” Barrett (31-4, 17 KOs) in Chicago on October 7.
Valuev has a busy schedule while in town.
This morning he met with the Russian Ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, over breakfast at the Regency Hotel in midtown Manhattan.
Not long after that, Valuev was introduced to real estate mogul Donald Trump, a close friend of promoter Don King, at Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue.
And rounding out the day, the WBA heavyweight champ intends to visit the Empire State Building, New York’s tallest building, allowing King’s Kong to see the world from even higher up than usual.
The New York press gets to meet Valuev face-to-face, or face-to-chest, this Wednesday.
