Chambers Tkos Rossy
ESPN2’s Friday Night Fight results from Seldon, NY
Live from the Suffolk Community College in Selden, NY, in a card broadcast on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights, Fast Eddie Chambers (28-0, 16 KOs) handed formerly unbeaten Derric Rossy (15-1, 9 KOs) his first loss with a stunning seventh round TKO stoppage.
The 6-foot-3-inch, 248-pound Rossy got off to a fast start and pounded the 6-foot-1-inch, 215-pound Chambers with lefts and rights. Chambers was catching, but stayed in the pocket and was picking his shots, fighting smart. In the second round Chambers was cut over the left eye by what was ruled a punch, but stuck with his game plan. In the third Chambers began to let his hands go and had Rossy bleeding from the nose.
The effective aggression of Chambers began to turn the tide in round four against what was becoming the ineffective aggression of Rossy, who was breathing heavily and wading in with no defense to speak of. Chambers took complete control of the bout in the fifth, as he blocked and parried everything Rossy threw, even as the Long Islander’s output was quickly decreasing.
Round number six was more of the same, with the more experienced Chambers taking Rossy apart bit by bit. By round seven, Rossy looked a mess. His right eye was swollen shut and he continued to bleed. With every unanswered punch Chambers threw at Rossy, he implored the referee Arthur Mercante Jr. to stop the fight, but the ref hadn’t seen enough at least not yet. Several more punches landed on the defenseless Rossy and Mercante stepped in and called a halt to the action at 2:32 of the seventh.
