Final Bell For L.A. Boxer Carmen Georgino, 92
Southern California boxer Carmen Georgino, 92, passed away last week.
The Alhambra resident was the oldest brother of Riverside’s Bennie Georgino and one of several boxing brothers. Georgino lost to former middleweight champion Jimmy McDaniels and fought more than 300 amateur and pro fights in his career.
As an amateur he once participated in three fights in one day, fighting at Jeffries Barn, the Olympic Auditorium and Pacific Ocean Park.
“He was a heck of a guy,” said Bennie Georgino, a former boxer, trainer and manager. “My brother was a real tough guy.”
Georgino owned a bar and grill on Sunset Blvd. near Dodger Stadium where celebrities of the day visited often.
“A lot of people knew my brother,” said Bennie Georgino.
A wake will be held Tuesday Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles. A mass and burial for Georgino begins at 9 a.m. on Wednesday Oct. 29, at Calvary Cemetery located at 4201 Whittier Blvd. For more information call (323) 261-3106.
