HBO Sports serves up a hot showdown when HBO BOXING AFTER DARK: VICTOR ORTIZ VS. MARCOS RENE MAIDANA is seen SATURDAY, JUNE 27 at 10:00 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports team of Bob Papa, Emanuel Steward and Max Kellerman will be ringside for the event, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
Other HBO playdate: June 28 (8:00 a.m.)
HBO2 playdates: June 28 (5:00 p.m.), 29 (12:10 a.m.) and 30 (11:30 p.m.)
The event features an intriguing 12-round junior welterweight showdown between hot prospect Victor Ortiz (24-1-1, 19 KOs) from Oxnard, Cal. and Marcos Rene Maidana (25-1, 24 KOs) of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Last seen on HBO in March, when he scored a standout win over Mike Arnaoutis, Ortiz is meeting his most formidable opponent to date. The winner of this 140-pound showdown will fast-track through the talent-rich division.
The previously announced co-feature featuring Chris John of Semarang, Indonesia and Houston’s Rocky Juarez has been cancelled due to illness.
