Caballero Scores Win In Mexico
CABALLERO DEFENDS TITLE WITH TKO OF LEAL; CONTINUES PURSUIT OF JUAN MANUEL LOPEZ
“HE KNOWS IN HIS HEART WHAT I BRING TO THE RING, AND THAT’S WHY HE’S HIDING. BUT I’LL GET HIM.”
HOLLYWOOD, FL, September 5 – Last Saturday night at Ciudad Deportiva in Mexicali, super bantamweight champion Celestino “Pelenchin” Caballero continued his run of excellence, making his tenth WBA and second IBF title defense with an eighth round TKO win over Francisco Leal. The victory was the Panamanian’s 33rd in 35 fights, and his fifth knockout in his last six bouts.
“Leal was a game opponent, but I’m not going to give my titles up to anyone,” said Caballero, a native of Colon who now makes his home in Panama City. “I’ve been on top of this division for almost four years now, and I feel stronger and better than ever.”
The win over Leal was the 33-year old Caballero’s second of 2009, and now he has his sights set on making a fight with unbeaten WBO super bantamweight belt holder Juan Manuel Lopez of Puerto Rico.
“Juanma Lopez can keep running from me, but I’m not going to stop chasing him,” said Caballero. “The fans know who the true champion is, and as a true champion, I am willing to put my two belts up against his one belt and even travel to Puerto Rico to fight him. He knows in his heart what I bring to the ring, and that’s why he’s hiding. But I’ll get him.”
