PREDICTION PAGE: Arreola/Adamek, Angulo/Julio
HBO’s hit late-night boxing series features a can’t-miss night of heavyweight and junior middleweight action when HBO BOXING AFTER DARK: CRISTOBAL ARREOLA VS. TOMASZ ADAMEK AND ALFREDO ANGULO VS. JOEL JULIO is seen SATURDAY, APRIL 24 at 11:15 p.m. (live ET/tape-delayed PT), from the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, Cal., exclusively on HBO. The HBO Sports team of Bob Papa, Lennox Lewis and Max Kellerman will be ringside for the event, which will be available in HDTV, closed-captioned for the hearing-impaired and presented in Spanish on HBO Latino.
Fireworks are guaranteed in the main event when Cristobal Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) from Riverside, Cal. and Tomasz Adamek (40-1, 27 KOs) from Zywiec, Poland, two of the most explosive and exciting heavyweights, meet in a 12-round clash of titans. After suffering a hard-fought defeat to heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko in September, Mexican-American Arreola got back on track with a crushing TKO victory over Brian Minto in December on HBO. Now, with his sights set on another shot at the heavyweight title, the heavy-handed and entertaining Arreola looks to send a message to anyone with a belt by scoring a victory.
With the help of a huge following in his adopted home of Jersey City, NJ, Adamek has become one of the hottest contenders in the heavyweight division, having already earned light heavyweight and cruiserweight titles. Registering big wins over Andrew Golata and Jason Estrada in his first two heavyweight fights, he hopes to secure his place among the division’s best by taking out one of its biggest hitters.
In the evening’s opening bout, Alfredo Angulo (17-1, 14 KOs) of Coachella, Cal. by way of Mexico, squares off against Colombian-born Joel Julio (35-3, 31 KOs), now of Miami, in a high-powered ten-round junior middleweight bout. Fresh off a devastating knockout of Harry Joe Yorgey on HBO in November, hard-charging fan favorite Angulo looks to continue his rise through the junior middleweight ranks with another eye-catching victory.
Top junior middleweight contender and knockout artist Julio, once considered among the hottest prospects in the world, is eager to rebound from recent losses to high-quality opponents.
Earlier in the evening, the third episode of the all-access reality series “24/7 Mayweather/Mosley debuts at 8:30 p.m. (ET/ PT). The “24/7 program will also replay immediately after the boxing action has concluded on the main service.
