Sergio Mora Ready For Shane
MONTEBELLO CALIF.-Reporters gathered at Montebello P.A.L. gym where Sergio ?Latin Snake? Mora has established a base of operations.
It was media day for not just Mora but also Daniel Ponce De Leon, Frankie Gomez and Kaliesha ?La Silvestre? West inside the spacious gym. Unlike last week, this gym has enough room to fit plenty of reporters and plenty were there on Wednesday for Golden Boy Promotions media day.
Mora (22-1-1) signed with Golden Boy Promotions specifically with this in mind: to fight elite fighters such as Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) who he meets in a scheduled 12 rounds on Saturday 18, 2010 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. HBO pay-per-view will televise the fight.
?He?s one of the Golden Boy guys,? said Mora, who first saw Mosley fight in his first televised bout against then champion Phillip Holiday of South Africa. ?He?s a legend.?
The East Los Angeles boxer has never had an easy road despite first winning the Contender reality television series tournament, nor after beating the late Vernon Forrest for the junior middleweight world title. Nothing comes easy for him.
Mora does not expect Mosley to be easy at .all
?Shane Mosley has always fought the best and never ducked nobody,? said Mora of the Pomona speedster who recently lost to Floyd Mayweather last April in Las Vegas. ?He fought Vernon Forrest when nobody wanted to fight him, he fought Winky Wright when nobody wanted to fight him,? said Mora. ?The guys a warrior but so am I.?
Mora signed with Golden Boy then immediately put on a show against a tough Texas middleweight. After a slow start Mora revved up the engine and systematically shed the rust and impressively beat Calvin Green by technical knockout in the seventh round. Mora?s fight was voted Fight of the Night on the Las Vegas card.
Preparations for his upcoming fight with Mosley have included sparring with Rashad Holloway, Fabricio Rodriguez and Eric Mendez.
Dean Campos, who along with John Montelongo handle all of Mora?s training, said whenever the East L.A. fighter has been involved with a grade A fighter, he steps up 10 fold.
?Whatever it takes he does,? said Mora.
