Witter Chop Chops Corley Down To Size
Junior Witter makes a big statement in Great Britain
Junior Witter decisioned Chop Chop Corley at the Alexandra Palace in Great Britain to win the WBC junior welterweight title Friday night. The judges’ scores were 118-112, 117-111 and 116-114, all for Witter.
After the fight, Witter’s promoter Mick Hennessy said, “I have already been on the phone to Oscar (De La Hoya), who thought it was fantastic news and is ready to take Junior to Las Vegas to defend his title there.
“We already have a great working relationship with Golden Boy and the opportunities are really opening up for Junior, with a number of big fights already lined up.”
“What makes [winning the 140-pound belt] sweet, Witter said, according to Sporting Life, is finally achieving my goal at last and proving all the doubters wrong. I have been knocked all the way and now I have done it.
“I have still got to let it sink in that I am champion. I am going to spend a week with my family and relax and then I am going to be straight back into training because that is what I do.”
Brendan Ingle, Witter’s advisor, said “It is all about doing what you have to do to win. Junior is the main man now. Hatton will have to come to us, because we are the ones with the belt.”
