Jermain Taylor Wants Joe Calzaghe
Jermain Taylor retirement plans already in the works
WBC middleweight champion Jermain “Bad Intentions” Taylor intends to abandon the middleweight division next year to move up in weight to fight as a super middleweight, and the man he would most like to meet is undefeated Welsh boxing sensation Joe Calzaghe.
In addition to Taylor’s packing on the pounds to go after Calzaghe, in part because of the difficulty he’s had in making the 160 lb. limit, he also, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, plans to throw in the towel and retire from boxing by August of 2009, when he is 30 years old.
“Calzaghe is a fight I would love because he’s supposed to be the man there and those are the guys I want,” said Taylor, adding that “Boxing is a job, that’s all. What’s the point of sticking around? To get extra, extra rich? I’m already rich, richer than I ever thought, so I don’t need to be any richer. I’m going to get out and never look back.
