Adrien Broner Stops Underdog Martin Rodriguez In Third…WOODS
“The Problem” didn’t have much of one in the main event at the US Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday night, as Adrien Broner took out heavy underdog Martin Rodriguez in the third round with a nasty left hook.
The likeable and humorous Broner (from Cincy; age 22; 21-0 entering) and Rodriguez (from Argentina; age 26; 34-2-1) fought for the vacant WBO super feather crown.
In the first, Broner buzzed the Argentine. He looked about two weight classes larger than Rodriguez.
In the second, Rodriguez calmed the butterflies. He threw more, landed more and tightened up his D.
In the third, Broner dropped his foe with a left hook. He hurt him with a right uppercut, and then tried to finished wildly. Then, he dialed in with a left hook, and the Argentine was just to damaged to get up.
The time of the finish was 1:43.
Broner went 49-154, to 30-155 for the loser.
After, he told Max Kellerman that he told his dad at age six he would be a champ. What’s next? He called out no one and threw it to Al Haymon and promoter Golden Boy.
Gary Russell met Heriberto Ruiz before the main event. He KO’d him with a naaasty right hook to the head in the first. “That was a sensational knockout and Gary Russell is a sensational fighter,” Kellerman said.
