Chavez Jr-Vera II Gets Best Ratings of 2014 Season To Date
The HBO boxing crew is happy with the ratings from their Saturday showcase, a little birdie tells me. The SALIDO VS. LOMACHENKO scrap garnered 1,017,000 viewers, 30% above Salido’s last HBO bout vs. Mikey Garcia on 1/19/13. What do we take from that? Well, for one, I think the hook put forth by Top Rank that Loma is of such a caliber that he could win a crown in his second pro bout moved the needle a great deal.
The CHAVEZ JR. VS. VERA II did 1,390,000 viewers, and stands as the top performing bout of a very young 2014 boxing season. It’s on par with Chavez Jr. vs. Vera I, which attracted 1,416,000 viewers. I suspect that a bunch of folks who jumped off the Junior bandwagon are back on, and more still will hop back on if a mega bout against a Golovkin, for example, is arranged.
Chavez Jr. vs. Vera II peaked at 1,531,000 viewers Saturday night on HBO, the birdie said.
