Attention, NY Boxers Who Want Health Insurance!
Dear Promoters/Boxers/Trainers:
I know that you support the Commission’s important mission of protecting the health and safety of boxers.
As you know, many of the professional boxers living in New York are presently uninsured and therefore unprotected in case of injury or illness. In our effort to remedy that situation, the Commission has enlisted the services of a not-for-profit called NADAP, which has been contracted by the NYS Department of Health to enroll individuals and families in the Health Insurance Marketplace (also known as ObamaCare). We have arranged Open Houses for Monday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 30, from 9 am to 5 pm, at the Commission offices, 123 William Street, New York, NY.
NADAP staff will be on hand to enroll boxers in health insurance plans, including Medicaid.
While we cannot require that boxers enroll in health insurance plans, they should know that if they are eligible for Medicaid, the insurance will cost them nothing. If their income exceeds the limits for Medicaid – which are set at $16,105 for an individual, $21,707 for a family of two, $27,310 for a family of three, and $32,913 for a family of four – other low-cost plans are still available.
Boxers will be able to sign up for insurance on the spot.
Boxers who are interested, please make a phone call to me, David Berlin, to make an appointment will ensure that they are seen by NADAP staff. Although we would prefer knowing in advance who will be here to take advantage of this opportunity, as this will keep the Open Houses more organized and more efficient, we will also welcome walk-ins.
Here is the information:
DATES: Monday, July 21, and Wednesday, July 30
TIME: 9 am to 5 pm
LOCATION: New York State Athletic Commission, 123 William Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10038
Please help me to spread the word and make this work.
Thank you.
