KNOCKDOWNS GALORE Salido Beats Kokietgym in Mexico Rumble
The people, they love the knockdowns. Lots to love in the Saturday clash between ultra vet Orlando Salido and Terdsak Kokietgym, which unfolded in furious fashion in Tijuana, Mexico.
The scrap was lousy with knockdowns; if you want to skim the thing on YouTube, pay attention to the winner Salido hitting the deck in the first, second and fifth rounds. But the Mexican sent down the Thai loser in round one, four, seven and in the 11th round. That’s when the ref waved off the bout. Salido, still remarkably fresh and busy, hammered the loser with a set of launches, the nastiest of which..well, that’s hard to choose.
Left hook, right hook, left uppercut, right hand, and down went the 53-4-1 Thai left-hander, in the sort of heap that renders the crowd into a silent mass of hopeful souls that the beaten man will be able to stand, and not be carted off on a stretcher. Happily, the loser did not lose consciousness.
Salido, 33, rises to 42-12 and takes the WBO’s interim super feather crown. After losing to Mikey Garcia to start 2013, he has wins over Orlando Cruz, Vasyl Lomachenko and now Kokietgym. Both men deserve a mega-rest, and for the 33-year-old Thai, he maybe should consider an even longer hiatus, to let his brain settle.
These fellas started off fast, looking like they were getting paid by the punch. In the first, the Thai dropped Salido, whose back was the the ropes, with a left hand. He maybe fuzzed him with a behind-the head shot before that. The Mexican, no dummy, bought some time to collect himself by clinching a bit. The vet showed his bag o tricks is still as full and nasty as ever, as he dropped the loser with a low blow. But of course, the right hand, a testicle masher, was delivered with the ref on a blind side, unable to get a good look at the transgression. Want your fighter to be able to resort to Queensberry-unworthy tactics if and when needed? Have him or her dig into the Salido library…
This one, friends, is worthy of time spent, taken from your NFL investment, today. Check it out.
