Broner-Porter Booked For June 20
It is, to this point, the most high profile contest booked in a PBC contest: June 20, two building blocks on the Haymon Boxing roster will be on a collision course. Adrien Broner, seeking to rebuild the momentum he had two years ago, before he was derailed by the Marcos Maidana express, will take on Shawn Porter, in Las Vegas.
The two Ohioans will tangle in a catchweight fight, to weigh no more than 145 pounds the day before the scrap, a source tells TSS, and no more than 155 on the day of the fight. That contractual element is there with a nod to the understanding that Broner is maybe better suited at 140 than 147, Porters’ stomping grounds.
Both men come off wins to underdogs; Porter handled late sub Erick Bone on PBC and Broner had his way, in easy work, with rugged-man John Molina.
Anyway, if a catchweight situation means that two upper tier boxers will get it on, then, I guess, we can junk our semi-purist mentality, and embrace the new normal. Readers, what say you; does AB get your love going in to this, as the more refined pugilst? Or does Porters’ rugged manner seem better suited in this style clash? Weigh in!
